AVA is a respected South African company, operating globally and in Malaysia since 2021. Its
purpose is to make the mining and quarry industry Smarter by applying real-time data processing,
automation, and machine learning, to mining and quarry operations.
When AVA needed a
partner to solve a troublesome, fleet data capture problem at a mining customer in Sarawak, they
turned to Active Telematics to solve it.
AVA’s customer, Sakura Ferroalloys, manufactures manganese at their smelter in Bintulu, East Malaysia.
Product is produced, transported, and exported via Bintulu port. Raw materials are imported through
this same port.
AVA is retained to track Sakura’s 140 mining vehicle assets and
monitor productivity and associated risk -- a 24/7 commitment. That kind of remote and rugged
operating environment naturally disrupts data capture from Fleet Trackers in working vehicles. In one
instance, telemetry units did not provide data for several days. Online initial investigations by AVA
did not determine the problem.
Active Telematics quickly stepped in. After attempting over-the-Air (OTA) maintenance, our on-site
technician in Bintulu on-site the next day. He quickly diagnosed issues with the installed Fleet
Tracker devices, remedied those and the telematics data was flowing again later that day.
Ultimately,
the stress of this operating environment requires a more intense Fleet Tracker device health check and
preventive maintenance regime, to avoid repeat, scenarios. Active Telematics has been delivering this
maintenance program ever since.
Whenever a Fleet Tracker is interrupted within Sakura’s fleet, AVA’s 24-hour Control Room communicates
this to Active Telematics. Data capture from the Fleet Trackers occurs every 10 seconds, which is sent
via the ActiveWeb E tracking platform, to AVA’s platform.
Our support system is
designed to quickly identify any interruption to telematics data flow, pinpoint the issue and then
activate a quick remedy. This ensures minimal data disruption, enabling AVA to deliver operating
efficiencies for Sakura.
